2. Kohitur Mango This mango was believed to have been created for Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah in the 18th century by a horticulturist called Hakim Ada Mohammadi. The variety was only reserved for the royal families and is a “cross between the now-extinct Kalopahar and another unrecorded variant,” as per a Conde Nast report.

The cost of the variety can be somewhere between Rs 3,000 a piece and Rs 12,000.

3. Alphonso Mango A well-known variety, Alphonso mangoes are renowned as the ‘king Of mangoes’, and rightfully so! Indians ordered mangoes worth Rs 25 crore on Zepto (an instant delivery app) in April 2023 and Alphonso was a top favourite! The variant can cost up to Rs 1,500 per kg during peak season.

4. Noorjahan Mango As the name of the variety hints, the mango is pure royalty. The names also point out that “Noorjahan’s naming is tied to the Mughal queen by way of its descriptor — Mallika-e-aam or the queen of mangoes,” a CNN traveller report says. These varieties are large and weigh up to 3.5 kg. They can cost Rs 1,000 a piece.

5. Miyazaki Mango Primarily grown in Japan, this variety is said to be the most expensive variety in the world. These mangoes are grown in Miyazaki Prefecture of Japan and are known for their deep red skin and sweet, rich flavour. They can cost up to Rs 3.5 lakh/kg.
